The first person to figure out what this phenomenon is will win a Focus Productions’ poster of their choice. Photo was taken June 29, 2009. Answer will be posted in one week.

wellllllll it kinda looks like some sky cloudy stuff, but it also kinda looks like some kinda weird floaty stuff in a lake or something so my guess in technical speak is – “Weird floaty stuff in the water.”

Could it be the rooster tail from a surfboard on a big wave?

It’s the undertoad.
By wade on Jul 15, 2009 | Reply
Not undertoad, copy gal, but might be in the world according to Garp.
Something from an ocean wave was my first guess, too, Randy (it’s a Bob Woodall photo).
Leger, all that powder skiing has your mind seeing satellite images. Now, I see it, too. But that’s not even close to what it really is.
Jeff, you and Leger see things similarly. We won’t have to DQ meteorologist Woody. Not a weather image.
Nice try Prigge. The locale is correct, but no geothermal activity involved.
Spindrift isn’t all wrong, Rob, but isn’t all right either. Close call.
Bissell, weird floaty stuff in the water is a very very close call, but….
Bones, another local photographer, said it first: “silt or something coming into a lake from its inlet.”
Woodall (it’s his photo) will be back in the real world next week (he’s currently wearing buckskins and living in a teepee).
I’ll let him sort it all out.
Meantime, what exactly is it?
Thanks for the answers! Keep trying.

Smoke on the Water da da da Smoke on the Water
remember that old song.
I think it is smoke coming out of the water in Yellowstone. Maybe the same thing as geothermal activity which has already been guessed. Smoke on the water.
