Rest In Peace Theo

Written by wade on September 24, 2012 – 12:40 pm -

We are extremely saddened that our friend and colleague Theo Meiners passed away last week. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and his many friends. Theo died from a fall in a building while attending an International Snow Science Workshop in Anchorage, Alaska.

We've known Theo since he moved to Jackson Hole in the 1980s. He always inspired us by his actions and with his words.

Here is an excerpt from an essay Theo wrote about skiing in Alaska for the Jackson Hole Skier magazine. You can read the full text by clicking Here and turning to page 68. The chopper has landed, Theo has done a slope evaluation, is preparing to ski, and reflecting on the run afterward:

OK, it is a go. There is only one first run: my right as a guide, as an opener. Read it and eat it. No way back. Just full-throttle flying with your feet barely in contact with Mother Earth. Nothing is finer. There are no words to describe these moments. Bliss. Nirvana. Heaven on Earth. Freedom. All are just words. This was something else. This was the best run of my life. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, universe. I’m alive today, more so, because of this gift. — Theo Meiners

Thank you Theo.
