Doug Coombs Day

Written by wade on March 31, 2016 – 4:02 pm -

unnamed Celebrating the life of ski pioneer Doug Coombs, 1957-2006. A friend and colleague, Doug's enthusiasm enriched my life. I will always cherish our adventures in the mountains of Jackson Hole, Europe, and Antarctica.

This photo of an avalanche on Pucker Face In Dec. 2013 that killed skier Mike Kazanjy illustrates the points made today in a Jackson Hole News & Guide article, “Resort aims to educate about gate-accessible terrain”:
“There is no sidecountry.” – Teton County Search and Rescue.
“We don’t want to give people the idea that this is a managed, easy area. It’s not mapped, it’s not managed, there is no avalanche mitigation. People need to know that.” – Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.
